Dude, the Palm Pre is soooo last week.  I want the Mini-Pre.

TechCrunch is reporting that “one of [their] better sources” blabbed about a second Pre-like device that Palm is “very far along” with and readying for a launch sometime in the second half of 2009.  The device is reportedly smaller than Pre, which could mean it forgoes the sliding QWERTY board in favor of an all-touchscreen solution, virtual keyboard and all.

And so it begins….

As I walked past a nearby Alltel Wireless store today, I happened to notice that the store was completely closed.  “Odd,” I thought, after walking by yesterday to the sight of hustle and bustle within the tiny building.  On the front door, a bold sign answered my question:

“This Alltel Wireless location is closed - please visit us at our new location inside of Verizon Wireless.”

First it was called the ‘Niagra,’ now it’s being referred to (and confirmed as) the ‘Tour’ - and should rumors be correct, it will be arriving on Verizon Wireless in mid to late July.  Pricing is expected to be $199.99 with a two-year agreement, placing the device in line with the BlackBerry Storm.  Given RIM’s record of changing release dates at unexpected times, the timeframe is unconfirmed at the moment (though it does come from a “trusty source,” according to the guys at BGR).
