Vertu-Ascent-Ti-Carbon-Fibre.jpgVertu, the premium mobile phone brand from Nokia, has added one more high-end premium phone to its Ascent Ti portfolio. This Ascent Ti is made of carbon fiber, so you can imagine the cost of this phone. Carbon fiber is known for its strength, resistance, light weight and not to forget price. Vertu Ascent Ti made of Carbon Fiber can be a great show off for some of high-end premium mobile phone buyers out there. The phone is handcrafted in UK, where the only Vertu set-up of Nokia lies and made of carbon fiber and resin. The phone is available in Ascent Ti Carbon Fiber Limited Edition, Carbon Fiber Grip, Carbon Fiber & Copper Grip, and Carbon Fiber & Aluminum Grip. Like all the premium phones, features do not matter here as you are paying for the looks and the kind of materials that are used, so forget the features. And, if you are thinking about the price of this phone then it is only available upon request..so forget about it.

Kevin from CrackBerry just posted a hands-on video with an early version of Verizon’s forthcoming BlackBerry Storm 9550 - aka Storm 2. That SurePress clickable screen is still there, but Kev says it’s much better than the first iteration. This early model runs more or less the same software as the current Storm, but has more memory and the overall hardware is “much nicer,” as well. There are lags and kinks and bugs to be ironed out before launch, for sure, but maybe there’s still hope for an all-touch BlackBerry that’s actually usable. Read the rest of this entry »

Nokia 5800_n97hs.jpegNokia next firmware update for its first touch screen XpressMusic phone, the 5800 will see Kinetic Scrolling, widgets, which would enhance the homescreen just like the N97. The update will also improve the phone’s response time, camera output. Improved homescreen and widgets will make the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic just like the N97’s home screen. Kinetic scrolling would be coming to the web browser, home screen and contact list so you might get a touch experience just like the iPhone if the kinetic scrolling is that good. Partial kinetic scrolling might be a turn-off as the user has to remember which features support Kinetic scrolling and that might shatter his expectations. Full kinetic scrolling is a must for Nokia 5800. [Via]

In this video, I cover mail, messaging, and Twitter. I’ll be back on Tuesday with more, but I’m not sure what to cover next. The browser? The camera? Keep sending me your questions. Someone wanted to know about syncing Yahoo contacts. As far as I can tell, Funambol is the best solution, though i admit I haven’t tried it for Yahoo! sync.

The pay per second model has really paid of well for the latest entrant in the Indian GSM space, Tata-DoCoMo. Tata-DoCoMo is the joint venture between India based Tata Teleservices and Japanese mobile giant NTT DoCoMo. Its the only GSM operator in India, who charges per second rate of 1 paise. So, if you speak for say 1 min 20 seconds you will be charged 1 rupee 20 paise. When it comes to other operators, you will be charged for 2 minutes even though you have spoken for 1min 20 seconds. This new pricing strategy from Tata-DoCoMo will certainly change the rules of the GSM game, which is dominated by AirTel and Vodafone. Tata-DoCoMo is also in talks with their joint venture partner NTT DoCoMo and you will soon see mobile handsets being offered from Tata DoCoMo along with the various GSM plans. Tata-DoCoMo has launched its GSM network in 5 regions, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, AP, Kerala and Orissa and they are aiming for a Pan-India presence by the end of October

The eagle has landed. I finally got my Google Voice invitation on Wednesday and boy, was I happy. Within twenty seconds I was searching for numbers containing favorable words in my area code. Yeah, I know it’s actually more difficult to dial by letter on many mobiles these days, but I wanted something cool and memorable. Wouldn’t you?

iphone-china-talks copy.jpgAs told earlier, Chinese Government and Apple are planning to get a iPhone in China (officially). These phones will be special as they wont be having Wi-Fi connectivity. According to some financial analysts in China, Foxconn is manufacturing this special iPhones in China for the Chinese mobile phones users. Foxconn is anyway the preferred contractor of Apple for getting out its iPhones. Foxconn will be manufacturing both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and these would be available on big mobile service providers like China mobile. The Chinese market is already flooded with more than a million iPhones that have made their way inside the country through the gray market route. Does it make sense for Apple and Chinese Mobile Service provides to make the iPhone officially available and that also without Wi-Fi???
