N97, one of the two Nokia smart phones, which helped Nokia regain its market share in Q4 2009 will soon be getting 2.1 Firmware update. Last year, October, Nokia N97 received Firmware 2.0 update, which was pretty big and users got to enjoy kinetic scrolling and more responsive touch screen UI. Some of the major changes that the 2.1 Firmware will boast of are, smooth touch screen scrolling, improved call reliability, image & video stability, browser stability and improvements in the music player. There are many other minor upgrades, which will be coming to the 2.1 Firmware upgrade and I will keep you posted on that. So if you have the Nokia N97, make sure you connect it to your PC tomorrow and check if the firmware update is available through the Nokia Software Updater. Yeah, this update won’t be available as Over The Air (OTA) update.

Full version of Firefox Mobile is now eviller for download for your N900. Initially Firefox was available as RC3 version but now the guys over at Firefox mobile have made the full and final version available for Maemo based Nokia N900. One more Internet browser joins the race for tabbed browsing. Now Opera will face some tough competition from Firefox. As of now 40 add-ons are available for Firefox mobile for N900. Check out the add-ons here and you can download Firefox for your N900 by visiting Firefox.com/m from your N900. From the add-ons some of the interesting ones are, Adblock Plus, TwitterBar, YouTube Enabler, Zemanta. Firefox wont get much of a share as of now cause it is available only for the N900. The Firefox team needs to make it available for other mobile phone OSs also.

Nokia declared its Q4 2009 results yesterday and to the surprise of many the company’s earnings were better than expected. Recently Nokia has been facing tough time in the smart phone market due to increase in popularity of Apple’s iPhone and Blackberry. Surprisingly Q4 2009 of Nokia was driven by the strong sales of two of its smart phones, N900 and N97. Nokia sold 127 million mobile devices in Q4 2009 and its market share was 39%, which also has increased as compared to same quarter in 2008. So if you see Nokia’s results are something, which the analysts would have never thought of. Demand for its N900 and N97; cost cutting in terms of employee reduction has helped Nokia to maintain its leading position and momentum in the mobile phone race especially smart phones.

I’ve been leaning more towards app-related news lately and since I have a Nexus One on hand and people are asking about compatibility, I decided to put together a post on my favorite apps for use with the N1. It’s 8 pages of images, text and video. Check it out! An app that I’ve been waiting a long time for just might be popping up for public Android use in February. It’s called Fennec, and it’s the mobile version of Firefox. A service that I’m a long and loyal fan of - the go-to to-do, Remember the Milk - is great on Android, but requires a $25 per year membership.
