Last summer, Consumer Reports said it was unable to recommend AT&T’s iPhone 4 due to its “death grip” antenna woes. Fast forward eight months or so, and the same thing has happened to Verizon’s version of the iPhone 4. In its review of the VeriPhone, CR says that the device falls victim to the same signal problems as its GSM brother, seemingly confirming claims that we’d heard a few weeks ago. 1) Great processing power based on modern processors. Androids use Cortex-A8 based processors which deliver a much better performance than Symbians with Arm 11 CPUs. Excellent examples are HTC Snapdragons (currently with 2nd generation) and Samsung Hummingbirds, both running at 1 GHz speed (versus 680MHz speed in Symbians). The gap in processing power is even larger with the newest dual-core CPUs based on Cortex-A9 architecture (like in Motorola Atrix). That makes Symbians to fall even farther behind Androids.

The Samsung Galaxy Indulge is the first 4G LTE Android smartphone available on the market. That means that while all of Verizon’s customers are waiting for 4G , you prepaid MetroPCS customers can already enjoy all of the 4G good-ness you want. Not bad for the fifth largest wireless carrier in the United States. The Indulge is a fantastic device, even without the 4G speeds, but LTE just makes it that much better. Months ago, AT&T informed us that they would be moving away from their reliance on the iPhone and branch out their smartphone lineup to offer a plethora of Windows Phone 7 and Android devices. With this movement, a handful of drool-inducing phones have been announced and released.

Earlier today, AT&T announced that the Samsung Captivate would finally be upgraded to Android 2.2 starting tomorrow. The Captivate’s not the only device on AT&T’s roster getting bumped up to Froyo, though, as Dell just announced that the AT&T-branded Streak is getting moved to 2.2, as well. Google has rolled out Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for two of its awesome Android based smart phones, Nexus One and NExus S. This Android 2.3.3 update loads the phones with NFC features. Nexus S will soon be able to write NFC tags and can act as a NFC tag itself. Earlier Nexus S could only read NFC tags. The update will fix the problems of Nexus S getting randomly rebooted and also some bugs. Nexus One and Nexus S are two Google branded Android running phones that are doing great, thanks to Android functionality as a smart phone OS and frequent updates and thousands of Apps that are available in the Android market. Exactly one week ago, we heard that the Nexus One would soon be bumped up to Android 2.3 soon, and that’s just what happened tonight. According to the official Google Nexus Twitter account, Android 2.3.3 is beginning to roll out over the air to both the Nexus One and the Nexus S.
