It’s a dogfight between two of the hottest devices on the market! Aaron throws the HTC ThunderBolt and the Apple iPhone 4 together to see which one comes out on top. The HTC ThunderBolt is rocking the high end specs - 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch display, 8-megapixel camera, front-facing camera, kickstand, and Android 2.2 with HTC Sense 2.0. The iPhone 4 is no slouch though; it’s powered by an Apple A4 CPU and offers a 3.5-inch display, 5-megapixel camera,… Read the rest of this entry »

RIM will be launching the BlackBerry PlayBook and its QNX-powered operating system next month, but outside of a statement from a RIM exec claiming that QNX will eventually replace the BlackBerry OS on smartphones, there hasn’t been much indication as to what RIM plans to do when it comes time to bring QNX to its handsets. Today more news on the company’s future OS plans has come to light, though, courtesy of the folks at BerryReview. According to some notes passed to them from a developer… Read the rest of this entry »

Last week I listed and explained the advantages and disadvantages of custom ROMs . Running custom ROMs, though they will void your warranty and risk breaking your device, there is a long list of benefits that are well worth it to a large number of Android users. Of the hundreds of ROMs, one of the most popular to date is CyanogenMod (CM). It is officially available for 24 different Android devices, and unofficially supported on several others.

After some rumors and speculation, Research In Motion recently revealed that their first tablet device, the BlackBerry PlayBook , would be launching in the United States on the Sprint network on April 19 th . The device, which isn’t the most powerful tablet coming to the market sooner than later, isn’t the weakling amongst the pack, either, and should be on the radar for anyone who isn’t ready to pick up a tablet that’s powered by Apple’s or Google’s… Read the rest of this entry »

After Apple announced the dates for WWDC, we heard one report claim that the event would be strictly software-focused, meaning there wouldn’t be a new iPhone shown off like we’ve seen in the past few years. Now All Things D is corroborating that claim, saying that there won’t be a new iPhone present at WWDC in June. There was no reason given for “delay,” although John Paczkowski guesses that it may have something to do with including LTE support in the next iPhone. There’s been a… Read the rest of this entry »

Although companies like RIM and Google are taking steps to make near-field communication more prevalent in the mobile realm, the tech isn’t exactly widespread just yet. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, though, Google may be aiming to change that in the near future. The always mysterious “people familiar with the matter” have told the WSJ that Google is teaming up with MasterCard and Citigroup to create a system for Android users to make payments with their phones with an… Read the rest of this entry »

After there was nary a peep on iOS 5 at Apple’s iPad 2 event earlier this month, rumors sprang up claiming that we’d finally get a preview of the next iteration of iOS sometime next month. If a new report from the folks at TechCrunch is to be believed, though, we may have to wait until this summer to get our first peek at iOS 5. According to two of the site’s “solid sources,” Apple may unveil iOS 5 at WWDC this June, but it’s likely that it won’t actually be released until the fall alongside a… Read the rest of this entry »

Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color has always been a bit more of an eReader than an Android slate unless you decided to hack it, anyway but thanks to an update coming next month, the Nook Color will turn into something that’s a lot closer to the tablet that a lot of folks want it to be. HSN revealed earlier today that the Nook Color will receive an update to Android 2.2 in “mid-April” which will include Flash Player, Angry Birds, push email, and “Nook apps.” There’s not much info on what kinds of… Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday a rumor claimed that the Motorola DROID X could be updated to Android 2.3 as soon as next week , but now it looks like DX owners may still be left wondering where their Gingerbread is when March 28th rolls around. According to @PydePypper on Twitter, the Gingerbread build that was set to roll out next week was rejected by Verizon, so now it must go back to Moto to endure fixes that could delay the DX’s 2.3 launch by around another month or so. There’s no telling when… Read the rest of this entry » |
