There’s one thing that Microsoft is doing very, very right when it comes to Windows Phone, and that’s the fact that they are very, very open with their update plans . And general hiccups aside the company has done pretty well in making sure that they stick to their guns in that process. They’ve continued their plan of action today , announcing in a VIP preview event the next version of their fledgling mobile operating system, now known as Windows Phone 7.1, or… Read the rest of this entry »

So it’s Saturday night and the world still exists. Why not celebrate by renting a movie from the Android Market ? Hopefully you’re not using a rooted device. If you are, you’ll likely be met with an error message like this one: “Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49).” That’s because, as this Android Market help page explains, rooted devices are “currently unsupported due to requirements related to copyright protection.” Currently only devices running Android 3.1 can… Read the rest of this entry »

AT&T may not be rolling out its LTE network until later this year , but today the carrier took some time to show off what that network will be capable of. Using a multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with both 700MHz and AWS frequencies, AT&T’s test yielded download speeds of around 28.87Mbps, while upload speeds hovered around the 10.4Mbps mark. According to AT&T, those are numbers that regular folk like you and I can expect to see when it flips the switch on its… Read the rest of this entry »

There’s a race going on, and much like any other high-profile race, everyone is watching this one. It’s between every manufacturer in the mobile industry, and they’re all racing to the same goal: to be the best. Some of them use different weapons in their race to the finish, but most have the same arsenal tucked away and ready to go. I’m speaking of the software, as manufacturers like Apple, HP, and Research In Motion all stick to the proprietary side of things…. Read the rest of this entry »
