Been wondering what happened to Sony’s S1 and S2 Honeycomb tablets since they were made official earlier this year? Us too. Today both devices are finally back in the news, though, as the folks at German site Golem were lucky enough to spend some quick hands-on time with the two slates and shared some quick first impressions of them both. The S1, which is photographed up above, was described as light and managed to run Crash Bandicoot on its 9.4-inch display. The S2 and its unique clamshell… Read the rest of this entry »

News on the Samsung SPH-D600, aka Conquer 4G for Sprint, has slowly been trickling out for the past couple of months. Today Samsung let the WiMAX cat out of the bag, though, posting photos and and several other details on the Conquer 4G. What kind of specs does the Conquer pack? Glad you asked: 3.5-inch 480×320 display, 1GHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter, WiMAX connectivity, Sprint ID, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No official word on when the Conquer 4G… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s a battle between two hot (and new!) HTC Android smartphones!  Aaron pits Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D against T-Mobile’s HTC Sensation 4G to see which one is the manufacturer’s true flagship device.  Both offer a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 4.3-inch qHD display (540 x 960 pixels), and Android 2.3 with HTC Sense 3.0.  The primary differences (outside of design)?  EVO 3D offers dual 5-megapixel cameras with 720p HD video recording, 3D capabilities, 1 GB of… Read the rest of this entry »

And just like that, the wait is finally over. The T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide has been one of the leakier handsets in recent memory, but it’s finally been made official in the dead of night. Launching in July for “as low as $199.99,” the myTouch 4G Slide packs a 3.7-inch 480×800 super LCD display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 8-megapixel camera with that T-Mobile claims is the “most advanced camera on any smartphone,” 1080p video capture, VGA front-facing camera, preinstalled 8GB… Read the rest of this entry »

Up to this point, each major version of Android save for Cupcake and Donut has had a flagship device to show off the new software. Google introduced the world to Android with the G1 (HTC Dream) back in October of 2008 with Android 1.0. Then the jump to 2.0 (or Eclair) was shown off with the outstandingly popular Motorola Droid. Although neither of these devices were actually Nexus phones, they were flagships that shipped with stock Android and were the result of a lot of collaboration… Read the rest of this entry »

LulzSec has made quite a name for itself over the past month or two by hacking the websites of various organizations and government entities, but today the group decided to call it quits after one more big release of data. What does this have to do with mobile, you ask? Included in the mountain of information is some internal AT&T data regarding LTE and its plans to offer different speed-based data options that it calls “Speed Based Pricing.” Now before we dive into the details, it’s worth… Read the rest of this entry »

In today’s market, one of the selling points of our high-end phones is the memory inside. Specifically, people want more memory; memory that they can use to store their music, their games, pictures, and whatever else they want. It’s part of the industry now, and people expect there to be more memory than they probably need always available. Of course, as anyone who has ever used a device with a fixed amount of memory on board, such as any one of the webOS-based devices, or an… Read the rest of this entry »

Well, well, well, what do we have here? No, really. What do we have here? What you’re looking at up above is photo of a mysterious Motorola device posted by the folks over at Pocketnow, and besides the fact that it’s made by Moto, there isn’t much known about this particular product. It looks to have a large display, possibly of the 4.3-inch variety, and we can’t make out any capacitive navigation keys on the phone’s face (usually those keys are easy to see on Moto products even when not lit… Read the rest of this entry »

And you thought featurephones were being obliterated. Nope! Not only are they still around but carriers are actually releasing new ones! That means that we have to update our Top Messaging Phones list.
(Actually, the reason we had to update the T-Mobile list is because T-Mobile discontinued one of their featurephones, thus forcing us to move a phone up from being not in the list at all to now number three. But the new Sprint list is because of a new phone.) It’s nice to know that if you… Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve talked about defining features in a smartphone. We’ve even talked about how a company might focus on one feature more than others in a particular handset, all in hopes of getting more people to buy it. It’s a common practice, and one that won’t go away any time soon. It’s one of the reasons why when rumors about a “Facebook phone” started popping up I wasn’t all that surprised. After all, Facebook’s popularity has only been… Read the rest of this entry »
