Some like it, some don’t. The BlackBerry PlayBook has been a love-hate device since it was first rumored a few years ago as the BlackPad. Running QNX, a software made by the like-named company recently acquired by RIM, many hoped the PlayBook would be a refresher and a device that could pull RIM back into the race. Unfortunately, it’s effects have been minimal .

All of the mobile operating systems can’t have the same features, or the same draw that attracts customers. After all, if they were all the same then there wouldn’t be any reason to have one over the other. But, there’s also a fine line between what features some phones need, and what they are lacking. For example, Android ’s customization may be too much for some people to really enjoy; while Apple’s lack of customization to their standard OS may not be… Read the rest of this entry »

I’d say that this is a good way to kick the weekend off. The Motorola Atrix 4G has finally received its update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and best of all is the news that the new software is available for manual download right now on Moto’s website. To install the update, which is version number 4.5.91, you’ll need to download it from Moto’s website, move it to a microSD card with at least 200MB of space, and then head into the System upgrades portion of your About Phone menu. So what kinds of… Read the rest of this entry »

Some have already written the tablet market off as a gimmick and vowed to never purchase one of the blown-up smartphones themselves. The argument is that you are getting little to no extra functionality over a pocket-sized smartphone and are paying roughly what a decent laptop would cost. Having owned about seven tablets or so now, I definitely understand where they are coming from and to an extent, I can agree.

Ready for a good, old-fashioned mystery? The photos you’re looking at above and below were uploaded to Flickr today and, according to the data included with the images, they were taken with a device called the HTC Ruby. The name Ruby was originally thought to be the codename of the HTC Arrive, but obviously the device you see reflected in the display of the HTC Flyer isn’t an Arrive. There’s not much we can discern from the 200-odd photos that the user took of the Flyer and uploaded to Flickr,… Read the rest of this entry »

In the market for a new AT&T Android phone but want something tad more rugged than the recently-announced Nexus S? Then the Motorola Defy+ may be right up your alley. According to a report from This is my next, Motorola is shopping a new version of the Defy around to carriers that features 850/1900/2100 HSPA, meaning it would be a great fit for use on AT&T’s network. This refreshed Defy is rumored to be packing an upgraded 1GHz TI OMAP 3620 processor and Android 2.3.3. Outside of that, specs… Read the rest of this entry »

Check it out, folks. What you’re looking at up above is said to be an early version of DROID Does page dedicated to Motorola’s DROID Bionic that’s reportedly going live the first week of August. And what is that down in the lower right corner? Why that’s a price. According to this leaked Bionic web page, Verizon’s next 4G LTE handset will cost $299.99 with a two-year contract. The page also gives up the Bionic’s specs, but they’re said to be the same as the ones in the past. That means you’re… Read the rest of this entry »

At CES this year, there were numerous Android handsets announced that were bound for Verizon’s network – for those keeping count, that was over six months ago. Since then, only some of them have released. First came the ThunderBolt in March, which was closely followed by the Charge. The LG Revolution then came with little to no fanfare. But there is one device that is still missing from the lineup … the Bionic my Motorola.

The Nokia Sea Ray. This isn’t the first time that I’ve talked about the future Windows Phone-based device from Nokia, but the first time ‘round I wasn’t necessarily all that optimistic about the device’s upcoming release. It had nothing to do with the specifications of the phone, though, which this article is centered around. That initial article was all about how Nokia was just taking the easy way out, but honestly, with that aside, I think that Nokia has a… Read the rest of this entry »

It may have taken Motorola three attempts to perfect the horizontal sliding QWERTY design, but they have finally struck gold; the DROID 3 is easily one of the most solid and well-designed Android phones we here at PhoneDog have ever had the pleasure of using. It is larger than both the original DROID and the DROID 2, but rightly so with a 4-inch qHD display. Looking more professional than the older DROID 2 and less rough-cut than the first DROID, the DROID 3 is a sleek but very… Read the rest of this entry » |
