Last night we reported that the number of Android phones running Gingerbread just keeps getting bigger, with over a third of all devices running the latest major build of Google’s mobile operating system. Now we’ve got another handset joining the Gingerbread club, as the Casio G’zOne Commando has gotten bumped up to Android 2.3. Verizon posted a support document on its website detailing all of the changes found in the Commando’s update (build number C771M070), which includes reduced lag and… Read the rest of this entry »

It’s that time again, folks: time to check in with Google and see just how widespread each version of Android is. The last time we looked which, admittedly, was a while ago Android 2.2 was dominating the handset scene and Android 3.x was running on just 0.2 percent of all devices accessing the Android Market. How has all of that changed since April? Quite a bit, actually. On the phone side of things, Froyo is still king of the hill with 45.3 percent of devices, although Android 2.3… Read the rest of this entry »

A little over a week ago we were presented with some fresh renders of the Motorola Spyder/DROID HD/DROID RAZR, a device expected to be headed for Verizon with 4G LTE support in tow. Today the DROID RAZR is back in the news, as it’s reportedly been spied being put through the paces over at benchmarking site NenaMark. There’s not a ton of info to be had on the page, but the NenaMark listing does list the DROID RAZR as packing a 960×540 qHD display and 1.2GHz processor (possibly of the OMAP 4430… Read the rest of this entry »

Today’s the first day of October, and that means that we’re just a few short days away from Apple’s iPhone event and the start of what looks to be a crazy month in mobile. Of course, the Apple rumor mill has been kicking into high gear as we get closer to the October 4th iPhone event, and today we’ve got another report to add to the pile. This morning the folks at 9to5 Mac received the photo you see above, purportedly showing that AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon versions of the iPhone 5 have made… Read the rest of this entry »

Aaron reviews RIM’s newest device, the BlackBerry Curve 9360 , which is available at T-Mobile now (in black). It packs an 800 MHz processor, 2.4-inch display (which isn’t a touchscreen), 5-megapixel camera with flash, a full QWERTY keyboard, and BlackBerry 7. It’s an upgrade from previous Curve devices, but it’s painfully behind its mid-range competitors. Those that message a lot will like having a physical keyboard, but if media and apps are what you enjoy, you’ll… Read the rest of this entry »

So now that the Amazon Kindle Fire is the real thing, and people are still talking about it around the Internet, it’s time we take a swing at it, together. Let’s start a discussion about the tablet, because that’s what we all do best, right? Discuss. And, to be fair, I think the Amazon Kindle Fire does, indeed, deserve plenty of discussion. As it stands right now, I’m looking back at that article I wrote a few weeks ago, talking about how the Kindle tablet… Read the rest of this entry »
